There are challenges that come with sobriety. Once of the biggest obstacles is realizing that you can have fun without alcohol and drugs. It is important to find a way to reclaim fun and excitement without using a substance. You must realize that fun can always be had completely sober. Being impaired is not really having fun, so you must learn how to make that distinction.

1. Find A Hobby

This might sound like a clique' but you can really benefit in the fun department by finding a hobby that you really love. Not only will this increase the amount of fun in your life, but it will also spark creativity and become an outlet for frustration and stress.

2. Join A Club

This is a great way to give yourself a way to enjoy your free time without leaving time for temptation. Just be sure that there are not adult beverages featured in this club regularly. Do some research or inquire first before committing. You can really have a great time with the right club.

3. Exercise

Believe it or not, exercise can be a great deal of fun if you begin to see the benefit. You can get a great burst of energy as well as incorporate things that you enjoy doing that give you a workout. Try playing volleyball or swimming for instance.

4. Make New Friends

Having friends leads to fun. Having new friends is also a great way to keep away from temptation. Make plans to do fun things and be open to new relationships.

5. Learn A New Skill

Learning a skill is good for you and gives you a sense of accomplishment. You will not only be proud of your new found skill you will also be able to use it to channel your energy into something productive. Who knows, you may be able to use your new skill to help others.

6. Stay Away From Parties With Alcohol Or Drugs

It is possible to go to parties without alcohol or drugs and have a blast. Just be sure to check ahead of time to be sure you are not putting yourself in a situation where it may be present.

7. Encourage And Coach Others

You can use your sobriety to help other people maintain their own. You can be a coach or a sponsor perhaps and by doing so you will be doing yourself a service as well as the other person.

Once you find sobriety you will be able to find fun without substances with a little effort. It takes some time to relearn how to have fun when you thought you couldn't have a good time without satisfying your addiction. Once you find what works for you then you will wonder why you ever thought you couldn't have fun sober.
