How Long Does Percocet Stay In Your System?

Jan 22 2021
Categories:Drug Facts

The drug Percocet belongs to the Analgesics Opioid Combo class of drugs as it contains a combination of oxycodone (opioid) and acetaminophen (antipyretic and analgesic). The drug is prescribed to treat moderate to severe pain. Taking it affects the brain’s reward center so it can cause you to feel pleasure, relaxation, and even euphoria.

Many people who develop Percocet abuse actually start off with a legitimate prescription for the drug. However, they then get used to the pleasurable feeling that Percocet delivers and they continue to take the drug even after the prescription period is over. This can quickly lead to increased tolerance for the drug and Percocet abuse.

If you have been taking Percocet and you were suddenly told that you are up for a drug test, you might be wondering whether it will be detected in your system. How long will Percocet remain in your blood, saliva, urine, or hair? Does it leave the body quickly? These are just some common questions that can cause you anxiety even if you have a legitimate prescription for this medication.

How long does Percocet stay in your system, urine, blood, saliva, hair?

After taking any kind of drug, it will remain in your system for a certain period of time before it can totally be undetected. The time Percocet will stay in your system will depend on many different factors such as your metabolism, age, sex, weight, height, kidney and liver function, and more.

If you are taking Percocet, the amount of time you have been taking the drug and the dosage amount will also play a factor in how long the drug stays in your system. The method of drug testing is also an important determinant. Depending on whether you’re undergoing a urine test, blood test, saliva test, or hair test, the time of detection will vary.

We have listed the approximate times this drug will be detected in your system.

Percocet Urine Test

PercocetUrine testing is one of the most common methods of drug testing because it is inexpensive and fast. If you are about to undergo a urine test, Percocet will be detected in your urine 24 to 48 hours after your last dose. Take note, however, that it will only be detected 2 hours after you first took the drug.

Urine Test: 24 to 48 hours

Percocet Saliva Test

Using a saliva test is also another way to check drug use. Percocet can be detected through your saliva for 2 to 4 days. While it’s only two days for most people, the drug can stay for up to double that time depending on different factors.

Saliva test: 2 to 4 days

Percocet AbusePercocet Blood Test

Unlike a urine and saliva test, a blood test to check for drugs is a more invasive method. It is also more expensive that’s why companies do not normally use it for routine drug testing. If you are undergoing a blood test, Percocet can be detected only for 24 hours. One day after your last dose, the drug will leave your body.

Blood Test:  24 hours

Percocet Hair Test

Another drug testing method is conducting a hair test. While this is not as reliable as other methods, it provides the longest window to detect a certain drug. Generally, most drugs including Percocet can still be detected in your hair follicle for 30 to 90 days.

Hair Test: 30 to 90 days

What if I have a legitimate Percocet prescription?

If you have a legitimate prescription for Percocet and you need to continue taking the drug, you have to inform the drug tester of this information before being tested. Because Percocet contains an opioid, the drug test results will show that you are positive for opioids.

Telling the drug testing rep beforehand will clear up any confusion or misunderstandings about your result. You have to show your prescription to prove that you have been prescribed the drug and you are not taking it illicitly.

How to get Percocet out of your system fast

Are you looking for ways to eliminate Percocet out of your system fast? If you are about to undergo a drug test and have taken the drug without a prescription, you may be panicking and considering options to alter the results.

The reality, however, is that getting Percocet out of your system fast through deceitful means is just a temporary solution. If you are already abusing the drug or you’re struggling with a Percocet addiction, the only way to completely get the drug out of your system is to seek professional help.

If you or a loved one is struggling with substance abuse, help is available.
