3 Simple Steps To Admit Yourself To Rehab

Sep 28 2020
Categories:Addiction Treatment

One of the most effective methods for addiction recovery is entering a rehabilitation facility. Enrolling in a treatment program in a rehab that can address your addiction holistically can help you jumpstart your way towards sobriety. Many people, however, are hesitant to go to rehab because they are either embarrassed to ask about it or they think that the process is complicated. Because of this, people who may be benefitting from rehab and could have been treated remain stuck in the claws of addiction. If you or a loved one is considering addiction treatment, here are 3 simple steps that you could follow.

Step 1: Take a decision to get treatment

RehabNo matter how cliché this may sound, the first step will always come from you. Before you even search the internet for rehab centers in your area or get recommendations regarding the best addiction treatment centers near you, you first have to take the decision to get treatment. You have to be 100% sure that you are willing to go through the recovery process.

If you are not fully onboard and you’re just doing it for other people, you might have a more difficult time during your stay in the rehab. It will also be harder for you to maintain your sobriety because you’re not really in it for the long run. When you take the decision to go to rehab, you have to be completely committed. The decision and the will to recover has to come from you and no one else.

Step 2: Schedule a consultation with a treatment center

RehabOnce you decide to go to rehab, the next step is to check what kind of rehab is suitable for your situation. Do you need an outpatient rehab program or are you considering an inpatient treatment in a residential rehab facility? Are you looking to go to a rehab in your area or are you considering going to a rehab located out-of-state? For example, many people prefer to go to rehabs in Southern California because of the weather and the available facilities.

It is useful to check online for the best addiction centers and make a shortlist of the facilities you are interested in. When choosing a rehab facility, you have to check not only the look or space, you also have to research the programs that they offer. Depending on the substance that you are addicted to, there are different treatment programs that could benefit you better. Not all rehab facilities offer complete treatment programs and some may not have experienced addiction specialists in-house. Another additional consideration, especially with the Covid-19 pandemic, is whether the facility is implementing safety protocols to protect its clients and staff.

Once you have narrowed down your choices, call the rehab center and schedule a consultation by phone. During the initial call, you can ask all the questions you have about the rehab. Oftentimes, the rehab center will also conduct a pre-intake screening where they will ask about your personal situation including your addiction history and other related disorders. They do this to see if they can cater to your needs and so that they can recommend a suitable treatment.

At this stage, you can also ask about the costs involved when going to rehab and verify your insurance if it is accepted by the facility. Here at the Lighthouse, we accept most insurance policies and if your insurance company is not listed, we can also check it for you if your rehab stay will be covered.  We also offer other financing options if you do not have insurance.

Step 3: Admit yourself to rehab

RehabIf you decide to enter rehab, the next step is to admit yourself to the facility. The rehab center will provide you with a set of instructions and rules such as the time when you need to go, what you can bring, and what things are prohibited inside the facility. If the facility offers transportation assistance, you can also arrange this with them for convenience.

On your end, you have to tie up loose ends before the admission date so you won’t have to worry about them later on. These tasks can include informing your family and your employer that you will be gone for a certain period of time, arranging for pet care, and paying your bills in advance. By the time you enter the facility, you have to be absolutely dedicated to your recovery

Different rehab facilities have different sets of rules so not all rehabs are the same. These 3 steps are intended to give you an idea about how the process usually works.

At Anaheim Lighthouse, we offer full-service intake, transportation assistance, and 24/7 admissions. If you or a loved one is struggling with substance abuse, you can give us a call and we can arrange everything for you.
