May 26 2022
Categories:Drug Facts

A lot of times, people experiment with different drugs without really knowing the consequences. Some people take drugs recreationally while others are pressured to do so by their peers. When they start experiencing the dangerous side effects, it is often too late.

One drug that is definitely dangerous is cocaine. Cocaine is a powerful stimulant that can cause heart problems and other serious health issues. In the United States, it is considered a Schedule II drug, meaning that it has a high potential for abuse and is available only through prescription. Cocaine is very addictive. One question that's been on many people's minds is: can you die from cocaine? The answer, unfortunately, is yes. Cocaine can be deadly.

If you have been exposed to cocaine, it's important to be aware of the risks and take steps to protect your health by avoiding exposure to the drug.

How Much Cocaine Is Lethal?

Maybe you've dabbled in cocaine or you know someone who is using it. You're probably worried that they might overdose, but what are the chances of that actually happening?

Cocaine is a very potent drug and even a small amount can be dangerous. The effects of cocaine depend on how much is taken and how it's taken. But the scary thing is that this drug affects people differently. Depending on a person's age, weight, tolerance, cardiovascular health, and metabolism, what is not lethal to one person can be deadly to another.

To give you an idea on how much cocaine is lethal, some research found that about 6.5 grams of cocaine can be lethal to 50% of people weighing around 150 lbs.

But then again, you have to remember that this is just an estimate. The truth is, there's no way to tell how much cocaine is lethal because everyone responds differently to the drug.

What Causes Death from Cocaine Use?

Cocaine Abuse

There are different ways on how someone can die from cocaine use. While long-term and heavy users of cocaine are typically more at risk of dying from an overdose, even first-time users can die from the drug.

Below are some examples of how cocaine causes death.

Cocaine Overdose - Cocaine overdose is one of the most common ways people die from using this drug. When someone takes too much cocaine, it can cause their heart to race and their blood pressure to rise to dangerously high levels. This can lead to a heart attack, stroke, or an aneurysm. All of these can be fatal.

Mixing Cocaine with Other Drugs - Mixing cocaine with other drugs is also very dangerous. When cocaine is combined with alcohol or opioids, it heightens the risk of overdose and death.

Cocaine-Induced Heart Problems - Another side effect of heavy cocaine use is heart problems. Cocaine can cause abnormal heart rhythm, high blood pressure, and aortic rupture. All of these can lead to stroke, heart attack, or death.

Other Health Problems - Cocaine use can also lead to seizures, kidney damage (resulting from a seizure), brain hemorrhages, liver disease and failure, and severe malnutrition. All of these can be fatal if left untreated.

How to Treat Cocaine Addiction

Cocaine addiction is a very real problem. If you or someone you love is using the drug, it's important to get help. Not addressing the problem can lead to fatal consequences.

Here are a few things you can do:

  • Seek professional help from a rehabilitation center. Rehabilitation centers can provide you with the resources and support you need to overcome cocaine addiction. Someone who is addicted to cocaine may need medication in order to avoid difficult withdrawal symptoms.
  • Avoid triggers. If you're trying to quit cocaine, it's important to avoid places or people who trigger your urge to use.
  • Join a support group or seek counseling. This will give you the opportunity to talk about your addiction with people who understand what you're going through.

If you're ready to get help, there are treatment options available. Treatment for cocaine addiction often includes therapy, medication, and other holistic treatment programs. It's important to find a treatment plan that best meets your needs.

You don't need to go through this process alone. Help is available.
