Can You Snort Xanax? Dangers You Should Know

Mar 20 2023
Categories:Drug Facts

Xanax, also known as alprazolam, is a medication that is prescribed to treat anxiety, panic disorders, and depression. It belongs to a class of drugs known as benzodiazepines which work by calming the central nervous system. Xanax works quickly to reduce symptoms of anxiety and can be taken in pill form or liquid form.

Unfortunately, Xanax has become a popular recreational drug. Many people have started snorting the drug in order to feel its effects more quickly. In addition, some dealers are selling crushed Xanax pills on the street and encouraging users to snort them. But can you actually snort Xanax? What are the risks of snorting the drug?

Is it Possible to Snort Xanax?

Yes, however it's not recommended that people snort Xanax. Snorting Xanax can be dangerous and may lead to negative side effects. Many people attempt to crush and snort Xanax pills thinking that the effects will be quicker and more intense than taking it in pill form.

However, snorting the drug can result in an increased risk of overdose and death due to the rapid and intense absorption of the medication into the bloodstream.

Take note that Xanax is already a fast-acting drug that takes effect 5 to 10 minutes after taking the pill. This means that if you snort it, you are increasing your risk of developing a physical dependence on the drug. This can easily lead to addiction as well as long-term and short-term effects.

What Are the Dangers of Snorting Xanax?

Snort Xanax

The side effects of snorting Xanax can be dangerous. If you abuse the drug without a prescription from a medical professional, this can result in the following outcomes:

Overdose

When someone takes more than their prescribed dose of Xanax by any means (including snorting), they run the risk of overdosing on the drug. When used recreationally, this risk increases significantly because individuals may take more than what their body can handle in order for them to achieve the desired “high” from the drug.

Health Issues

Inhaling substances such as dust from crushing pills can lead to nosebleeds and damage to one’s nasal passages over time. Snorting could also cause increased blood pressure and heart rate, breathing problems, and nausea/vomiting shortly after using the drug.

These types of Xanax side effects are usually temporary but if left untreated can become much worse over time leading to even more serious health issues such as seizures or even death in some cases.

Addiction

Regular use of any kind of drug will increase one’s chances of becoming addicted to it over time. This applies especially when drugs are abused like with snorting Xanax or taking more than what was prescribed by a doctor originally.

If you find yourself needing larger doses or having cravings for the drug then it may be a sign that you have become dependent on it. Abusing Xanax could lead down an even darker path if left unchecked. Seeking help as soon as possible may be beneficial in avoiding further harm caused by substance abuse and addiction.

Seek Treatment for Xanax Addiction

If you feel like you are struggling with an addiction or abuse problem related to Xanax then there are many resources available that could help you overcome these issues before they become worse over time.

Attempting to quit on your own could result in painful withdrawal symptoms. If these are not managed, this could cause you to relapse. Therefore, a complete addiction treatment program is necessary.
