How Much Alcohol Is in a 12 oz Can of Twisted Tea?

Alcohol Is In Twisted Tea

Twisted Tea has an alcohol content of 5% ABV (alcohol by volume). This means that a 12 oz can of Twisted Tea Original Hard Iced Tea contains the same amount of alcohol as a regular beer. This info may surprise some people because Twisted Tea does not taste like beer.

It is actually slightly sweet and fruity with a slightly tart flavor. This makes people think that it has less alcohol compared to beer. Twisted Tea also makes a light version with 4% ABV, but with the difference in alcohol content being only 1%, it is not that much lighter.

So, can one Twisted Tea get you drunk? Read on to find out.

No, it is unlikely that one Twisted Tea will get you drunk or intoxicate you.

However, the exact answer to this question depends on several factors, including your weight, your alcohol tolerance, and how much you have eaten that day.

Alcoholism

Can You Get Drunk Off of 3 Twisted Teas?

Yes, it's possible to be both legally drunk and intoxicated after drinking three cans of Twisted Tea. To be considered legally drunk, your Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) must reach .08, and generally speaking, your BAC goes up by .02 after one standard drink.

Using this formula, you may need 4 to 5 cans of Twisted Tea to get to the .08 BAC level, depending on your weight. However, everyone metabolizes alcohol differently.

If you weigh 120 pounds or less, your BAC may reach the legal limit even with just 3 cans. You may also start feeling drunk or tipsy faster.

Is Twisted Tea As Strong As Beer?

Alcohol Abuse

In terms of alcohol content, the answer is yes. If you're drinking Twisted Tea thinking that it's a weaker option compared to beer, think again. A 12 oz can of Twisted Tea has the same amount of alcohol as a 12 oz can or bottle of beer. The main difference between these two drinks is the taste and ingredients.

Twisted Tea is made from brewed tea and also comes in fruity flavors. This is usually an option for people who want to get the same buzz without the taste of beer.

Can I Drink Twisted Tea In Addiction Recovery?

No, if you are trying to stay sober after struggling with addiction, it is important to avoid all alcoholic beverages—including Twisted Tea.

People who develop alcoholism from drinking Twisted Tea may start out thinking that they can control their consumption. They may start out drinking one can of Twisted Tea but eventually end up drinking several cans in a day. As the addiction progresses, they will begin to crave the alcohol and will eventually lose control over how much they drink.

Know the Alcohol Content of Twisted Tea to Prevent Alcohol Abuse

Twisted Tea is a refreshing beverage that many people enjoy. While it is not as strong as some other alcoholic drinks like tequila or vodka, it does contain 5% ABV—the same amount of alcohol as a regular beer.
