What Does Weed Look Like? Different Forms of Cannabis

May 18 2022
Categories:Drug Facts

When most people think of weed, they likely think of a typical green cannabis bud. And although identifying cannabis may seem straightforward, there are many different forms of marijuana out there – each with their own distinct appearance.

While marijuana is now legal in some states, there are still risks associated with using it. It's important to know what weed looks like, especially for parents or educators, so you can identify it if a minor is using it.

In this blog post, we will explore some of the most common forms of weed and what they look like. So, if you're curious about the different forms of weed out there, keep reading.

Marijuana Plant

Weed Plant

The marijuana plant is probably one of the well-known visuals  associated with cannabis. Marijuana plants can be identified by their palmate leaves, which are usually a bright green color.

The leaves of the plant also feature a serrated edge, which helps distinguish them from other plants in the same family. However, there are now different variants of the marijuana plant that have been bred to produce different colors, such as blue and purple.

Marijuana Buds

Forms of Cannabis

Marijuana buds are the flowers of the plant that are typically smoked. These buds can vary in size and shape, depending on the strain, and are usually a brownish green color.  Marijuana buds look like dried clumps with fine hairs /crystals, called trichomes, protruding from them.

Ground Marijuana

Forms of Cannabis

When people think of the term "weed" to refer to marijuana, the ground marijuana form is what usually comes to mind. Ground marijuana is usually kept in small plastic bags or containers. It is the dried and cured flowers of the plant that have been ground up into a fine powder. This type of cannabis is usually used in pipes or joints, although it can also be used to make edibles. Ground marijuana typically has a greenish-brown color.

Joint

Forms of Cannabis

A cannabis joint is a cigarette-like roll of ground marijuana that has been rolled in a piece of rolling paper. Unlike cigarettes that have been rolled by machines, joints are more uneven looking and are often rolled by hand.

Joints are a popular way to smoke marijuana, especially among beginners. They are typically small in size and can be easily concealed. A joint is usually smoked by lighting one end and inhaling from the other end.

Joints are one of the most common ways to consume cannabis, and they can range in size from slender rolls, to thick cigars. The shape and size of joints may differ depending on how the person is rolling them.

Blunt

Forms of Cannabis

A blunt is similar to a joint, but instead of using rolling paper,  it uses tobacco leaves. Blunts originated in hip-hop culture and are often associated with this genre of music.

Nowadays, blunts are rolled with blunt wraps instead of tobacco leaves, which gives it a more consistent and smooth appearance. A blunt is usually rolled with ground marijuana or hashish.

Dab Weed

Forms of Cannabis

Dab weed is a concentrated form of marijuana with a higher concentration of THC, which is the psychoactive component of cannabis. Dab weed is usually a yellow or amber color and does not have any of the plant material found in other forms of marijuana. This form of cannabis is highly potent and can cause serious risks.

Dab weed can come in various forms including:

  • Honey oil or honeycomb - dark golden/ amber liquid with very thick consistency.
  • Shatter - thin semi-transparent amber sheet that resembles glass that can easily break below room temperature.
  • Butter - doughy consistency that resembles peanut butter.
  • Wax - coarse and crumbly that resembles earwax or brown sugar.

Dab Pen or Wax Pen

Different Forms of Cannabis

A dab pen or wax pen is a device used to smoke dab weed. These pens usually have a heating element that vaporizes the concentrate when it's placed inside. Dab pens come in various shapes and sizes, but they look like vaping devices.

Dab pens have become quite popular because it is easier to discreetly use cannabis without attracting much notice. Because they resemble vape pens, it is easy to assume that people are just vaping nicotine when in reality they are smoking cannabis.

Marijuana Addiction and Treatment

For people who are heavily dependent on marijuana, it is possible to get addicted and this can disrupt different aspects of their lives. It is important to seek professional help if you or someone you know is struggling with addiction.

There are various treatment options available, and the type that is most effective depends on the individual's situation.

If you or someone you know is struggling with substance abuse, help is available.
