If you're looking for a good movie to watch that will keep you on the edge of your seat, then check out one of the movies about drug addiction in our list. These films tell riveting stories of people who have fallen into addiction. They also offer a unique perspective on addiction’s effects on people's lives. Whether you are looking for inspiration or simply want to educate yourself, these movies are worth watching.

1) A Star Is Born (2018)

This musical-drama starring Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper is a classic Hollywood story about fame and how addiction plays a role in the lives of many celebrities. The film follows the couple as they navigate their way through the ups and downs of addiction.

While some people may not be happy about how substance abuse is sort of "glamorized" in the movie, one noteworthy aspect is how it shows the struggle of being in a relationship with someone who is dealing with addiction.

2) 28 Days (2000)

28 Days is definitely a classic and should be in every list of movies about drug addiction. This Sandra Bullock movie is about a journalist who is sent to rehab for alcohol abuse. As she struggles through recovery, she comes face-to-face with the many challenges that people in recovery must overcome.

The film does an excellent job of depicting the various stages of addiction and recovery. It also offers a unique perspective on what happens in a rehabilitation facility.

3) Beautiful Boy (2018)

Beautiful Boy is another excellent movie about addiction and recovery. This film stars Steve Carell as a father dealing with the addiction of his son, played by Timothée Chalamet. The story follows their journey through drug abuse, rehabilitation, and relapse.

As this movie tackles how addiction affects the lives of teens and young adults, this movie is a good choice for parents who are dealing with the same situation. It also shows that addiction is not a linear process where recovery is instant, rather, it is a lifelong journey filled with ups and downs.

4) Rocketman (2019)

Rocketman is a film about the life of Elton John and his battles with addiction. The film chronicles his rise to fame, as well as his struggles with drug abuse.

While the focus of the movie is on Elton John's story, it also offers a glimpse into recovery and how addiction can affect anyone, no matter their station in life.

5) Flight (2012)

If you're into action and suspense, then check out the movie Flight starring Denzel Washington. Flight is an excellent movie about drug addiction that follows the story of a pilot who has a substance use disorder.

As addiction is often portrayed as an individual issue, this movie shows how a person's behavior can also have an impact on the people around them. Overall, this movie does a great job of showing how one person's addiction can affect others on a larger scale.

6) Limitless (2011)

Limitless is a sci-fi film starring Bradley Cooper as the main character who is given a new drug that helps him unlock his full potential. In the beginning, the drug seems to help him in every way, giving him all the things he's ever wanted.

But as the movie progresses, it becomes clear that the drug is not all that it's cracked up to be and has some very dangerous side effects. This movie does a great job of illustrating how addiction can cause people to spiral out of control. While it may seem like everything is going well early on, being hooked on illicit substances can quickly damage lives.

7) Four Good Days (2021)

If you're looking for a more modern take on addiction and recovery, Four Good Days is a great choice. This film premiered in Sundance Film Festival in 2020 and was later released in the United States in 2021.

The film, which stars Glenn Close and Mila Kunis, is about a long-time heroin addict who had to live with her mother for four days so she can be sober and eligible for drug treatment. This film shows the dynamics of a mother and daughter relationship and how addiction can impact family ties.

If you are struggling with substance abuse, help is available.
