Are your actions allowing a loved one who has a problem with drug and alcohol addiction to continue as they are? There is the possibility that your actions are enabling. Enabling an addict is not something people set out to do, but it is very common among those living with substance users and it ...

Depression is one of the most common mental and emotional symptoms of addiction. People who suffer from depression mistakenly turn to alcohol or drugs in an attempt to lift their moods. Their brains trick them into believing the “high” they experience is a solution. This short-term solution soon ...

Alcoholics and addicts do not want to face the reality of their situations. They live in fear, which they often cover up with false bravado, anger and abusive behavior. They feel guilty and ashamed, so they often blame other people and situations for their situations, leaving them with a "victim ...

Gratitude in recovery makes all the difference in a positive approach to sober living. An attitude of gratitude may not come naturally at first. In many cases, people who are newly sober don’t think they have anything to be grateful for. They only see what they have lost in the chaos of their add...

The words “surrender to win” do not make much sense at first glance, but the concept is a key component of addiction recovery. In terms of combat, surrender means to stop fighting. It is associated with losing and with giving up to an opponent. In terms of recovery, surrender becomes “surrender t...

When people we love hurt themselves by abusing drugs or alcohol, we want to help. We want to do whatever we can to mend broken relationships and prevent further chaos. For families and friends of alcoholics and addicts, help often creates more of a problem than it solves. Even the best intentions...

According to the classic book Alcoholics Anonymous, resentment and alcoholism go hand in hand: “Resentment is the Number One offender. It destroys more alcoholics than anything else. From it stem all forms of spiritual disease, for we have been not only mentally and physically ill, we have also b...

A drug addiction intervention is usually the last resort for loved ones concerned about an addict’s situation. The Lighthouse is a completely magical place where dreams are fulfilled and hope is brought to completion.
If I were shopping around I would want to honestly understand a few things first. Do they allow you to live a life independently structured where freedom and choice is a vital part of the program. Yes, they do.
The housing style is very accommodating with a few clients per apartment. Yes, my apartment holds five clients and the area is hardly frequented by staff. It feels like home, is equipped with Netflix and there are no limitations on bedtime hours or ability to fellowship with one another in this environment on our own time.
They allow you to have your cellular device while in the program as well. The food is outstanding and very wholesome; the kitchen is available and stocked with snacks twenty four hours a day. Family and friends can visit you on Saturdays and each weekend they allow you to travel to Walmart and shop for your own needs as well.
The majority of the above is based on comfortability, we just want to know if we can make it in a reasonable environment. This is to give you assurance that it is completely desirable and far above competitor locations.
On the recovery side of things we are given the option to acquire a sponsor allowing you visits any day of the week to meet and work on you 12 steps if you so choose. Otherwise groups are held daily and for about an hour each group. Every moment in between is yours to hang out and fellowship, kick back on some Netflix or exercise. We love playing games as well and ping pong is also a big hit here.
Give yourself a chance to recover in this magical place. What makes it magical is the staff members. For instance Mr. John Brown has impacted my life tremendously with his testimony and method of teaching, Mr. Rob (R.O.B) with his heart felt leadership style and Edmond who brings out the truth with his down to earth messages cutting sharper than any two edged sword.
I’m thankful that they all played a part in my recovery and I wouldn’t have it any other way. My only hope is that you by viewing this review, give them a chance to help save your life; making drastic changes that will impact your recovery journey forever. As John Brown would say, “even a bird with a broken wing has a song to sing”. So let’s hear your story!
