White Claws

It's no secret that countless Americans love White Claw. White Claw is a hard seltzer that is marketed to young adults but the drink has become increasingly popular for people of all ages. With a refreshing, light taste and low calorie count, it's easy to see why so many got quickly hooked to the beverage. The problem is that many people are ignoring the hard truth that White Claw being a hard seltzer is still an alcoholic drink.

Are White Claws addictive? The short answer is YES. White Claws can be additive. Because of the drink’s trendy and cool branding, many people seem to forget that hard seltzers contain alcohol. Over-consumption of alcohol leads to alcohol abuse and addiction. In this blog post, we will talk about why drinking too much White Claws can be dangerous and how you can avoid White Claw addiction.

Is White Claw Really Healthier? Why You Should Watch Your Claws

Many young people are becoming more body conscious. So while they still want to drink and have a good time, they don’t want to have to consume too many calories and have beer bellies. White Claw is marketed as being a “healthier” alternative. A 12 oz. can of White Claw only contains 100 calories, 2 grams of carbs, and 5% ABV (alcohol by volume), plus it’s also gluten-free. This means, you’re getting the same alcohol as if you’re drinking a regular bottle of beer but with a better taste and not as much sugar.

When you look at it this way, it may seem like White Claw is a better and healthier choice. However, just because White Claw looks and tastes better, that does not mean drinking too much is good for you. A lot of people think that just because a food or drink is “healthier”, that gives them an excuse to consume it more, but because White Claw has the same alcohol content as beer, drinking more of it also means putting more alcohol inside your body which is bad for your system overall. Recently, White Claw released a new product, which is White Claw Surge that contains 8% Alcohol By Volume in every 16 oz. can. This is even more alcohol than standard beers.

White Claw Addiction: Why You Could Be Addicted Much Quicker

AlcoholismMany White Claw drinkers, especially young adults, are not aware that it is possible to get addicted to White Claw. The packaging of White Claw gives it this fun and healthy image so it is easy to think that you’re guzzling a harmless drink. Because it does not have any usual alcoholic smell or taste, you might think that you’re not getting drunk yet, even if you already consumed too much alcohol.

For younger people who may not be allowed to drink legally, White Claw is also easier to hide compared to beer. It can be put in a drinking glass and it could be mistaken for a carbonated soda or water, without others knowing the difference.

Another reason why you could be addicted quicker to White Claw is the taste. Many people prefer White Claw compared to beer or other hard liquors because it tastes better, White Claw comes in several fruity flavors that are much easier to drink. But precisely because of these fruity flavors, it is more difficult to pace yourself and be mindful of how much you are drinking. This could lead you to drink more than what you normally would if you’re drinking beer or vodka. If you drink too much White Claw, you might find yourself already addicted to the drink without realizing it.

How To Avoid White Claw Addiction

White Claw AddictionConsuming too much of any alcoholic drink can lead to alcohol use disorder. White Claw and White Claw Surge contain alcohol, therefore you should be mindful of how much you’re drinking. If you drink White Claw socially, know your limit. Remember that a can of White Claw has the same alcohol content as most beers so if you typically drink only 1- 2 beers, that’s the number of cans of hard seltzer you should also drink.

If you are in alcohol addiction recovery, it is recommended to avoid any hard seltzer drink including White Claw. White Claw is not a non-alcoholic alcohol alternative and should not be viewed as one. Drinking White Claw could lead to alcohol relapse.

It is also not advisable to combine White Claw with other drugs and substances. Combining drugs like opioids or Xanax with alcohol could result in fatal consequences.

If you or a loved one is struggling with substance abuse, help is available.
