The answer is yes. You can get drunk off of White Claw. This is just one of the topics that we'll talk about in this blog post. Read on as we give you the tea on whether this beverage can get you drunk.

Is White Claw an Alcoholic Beverage?

Many teens and young adults are under the impression that White Claw is a "healthy" alternative to beer because it's low-calorie and gluten-free. The way it's marketed- as a light and refreshing drink- also doesn't help dispel this belief.

What many people don't realize is that what they're drinking contains alcohol. You heard that right! White Claw is in fact an alcoholic beverage! It's classified as a hard seltzer, which means it contains alcohol, carbonation, and water. However, White Claw is often confused as a non-alcoholic beverage due to its fruity taste.

Can I Get Drunk Drinking White Claw?

White Claw

Now that we've established that White Claw is an alcoholic beverage, let's talk about whether you can get drunk by drinking this beverage.

You've probably heard many Claw fans saying that it's "impossible" to get drunk off the drink because it doesn't taste like alcohol. We're here to tell you that this is false!

The truth is, White Claw can get you drunk. While White Claw may not taste like your standard alcoholic beverage because of the added artificial or natural flavors, it can most definitely get you drunk.

A standard can of White Claw contains around 5% Alcohol by Volume (ABV). This is the same amount of alcohol that's in a typical beer. This might not seem much compared to hard liquors with 40% ABV but if you're not used to drinking alcohol, a few cans can be enough to get you drunk.

In the United States, you are considered legally drunk if your Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) is 0.08%. For most people, it takes around four to five standard drinks in an hour to reach this point. Keep in mind that the number of White Claws to get drunk will differ from person to person. Your weight, food intake, and alcohol tolerance will affect how many drinks will get you drunk.

So, if you drink over four cans of White Claw within an hour, you may already be near the legal limit! And as we all know, being drunk can lead to some pretty bad decision-making.

Do White Claws Get You Drunk Faster than Beer?

Compared to beer and other malt beverages, this carbonated beverage has lower sugar and calories. This is why you might have heard that it's a healthier alternative.

A 12 oz bottle of beer usually has around 11 grams of sugar and 140 calories. On the other hand, White Claw only clocks in at around 100 calories with 2 grams of sugar.

Because of this, many hard seltzer drinkers take for granted that this fruity drink contains alcohol. Many underage drinking parties will have White Claw instead of beer because they think it's safer and easier to get away with.

Many parents are even unaware that White Claw is an alcoholic beverage. They see it as a "healthier" alternative to other alcoholic drinks and allow their kids to drink it without hesitation.

However, we want to remind everyone that White Claw is still an alcoholic beverage. Just because it's low-calorie and gluten-free doesn't mean that it can't get you drunk!

In fact, some people might argue that White Claw gets you drunk faster than beer. Because White Claw generally has a tolerable, fruity taste compared to beer, it's easier to drink more of it mindlessly.

And as we all know, the more alcohol you consume, the drunker you'll get. So if you're not careful, those Claws can sneak up on you and leave you with a nasty hangover the next day.

Before you start binge drinking this drink this summer, you need to understand that you can get addicted to the stuff.

Being dependent on White Claw can lead to alcohol use disorder (AUD). AUD is a medical diagnosis that describes someone unable to control how much they drink despite the negative consequences.

People with AUD will continue to drink even if it's causing problems in their personal and professional life. If you think you or someone you know might have AUD, we urge you to seek help from an addiction specialist.

If you or someone you know is struggling with AUD, please don't hesitate to reach out for help.
